Inner City Legal Centre rejects fear of intersex people

ICLC – the Inner City Legal Centre – has made this group self-portrait as their submission for the antidiscrimination project. Thank you, ICLC!

ICL rejects intersexphobia

Here are more details about, from the project’s website…

From Welcome:

This Is Oz is an online photo gallery where people can help fight discrimination against Australia’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community. Part art project, part human rights campaign, This Is Oz is all about making Australia a place where everyone belongs.

From What’s the Problem?:

Unjust laws and unfriendly attitudes mean that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people don’t always get a fair go.

Homophobia and transphobia are hostility, prejudice, hatred, or fear of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

Homophobia affects people in lots of different ways. Some discrimination is obvious, like unequal laws, verbal abuse or violent physical attacks. Other discrimination is more subtle, like being made to feel invisible or abnormal.

From About IDAHO:

IDAHO is the International Day Against Homophobia, held annually on 17 May, the date in 1990 when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses.

Discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) people still exists in many forms all around the world. In many countries, being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender is illegal and punishments are harsh. In others, discrimination is commonplace. IDAHO is a chance to work together around the world to challenge prejudice, discrimination, and violence against GLBT people.

Since it started in 2005, IDAHO has been growing fast. On May 17, actions and events will be taking place in more than 50 countries around the world. IDAHO activities include conferences, protests, petitions, art projects, parties, and more – all aimed at fighting homophobia and transphobia and celebrating diversity.
