“From pink triangles to social acceptance? Reflections on human rights and the journey still to come”
On 13 March, Sydney Health Ethics and ACON will hold an event on historical and contemporary ways that sexual and gender minorities have experienced human rights violations.
- Dr Astrid Ley, deputy head of Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum, Germany, will speak on pink triangle victims of National Socialism
- Justice Michael Kirby will speak on LGBTI human rights in Australia and their relationships with psychiatry
- Prof Jenni Millbank, an expert on gender, health and law will speak on LGBTI people in refugee settings
- Morgan Carpenter will speak on human rights and bodily autonomy for people with intersex variations
From pink triangles to social acceptance?
Presented by ACON and Sydney Health Ethics, this public lecture will explore the intersections of human rights and LGBTI people with diverse sexualities, genders and sex characteristics.
Speakers will provide contemporary and historical examples of the ways that sexual and gender minorities have experienced human rights challenges and reflect on the treatment of LGBTI people through legal and social frameworks.
The event will be held at Eternity Playhouse, 39 Burton Street, Darlinghurst, Sydney.
