“Intersexion” Sydney screening and Q&A with Mani Mitchell

OII Australia, Mind Out! & The National LGBTI Health Alliance, Queer Screen and Dirty Queer Magazine present a screening of Intersexion, and a Q&A with Mani Mitchell at the Red Rattler Theatre in Marrickville on Tuesday 9 October. Mani Mitchell is the researcher and narrator of Intersexion.

‎When a baby is born, the first question we ask is, “Is it a boy or a girl?”… What if it’s neither? 1 in 2,000 babies is born with genitalia so ambiguous that the doctors cannot easily answer this question. In this groundbreaking documentary, intersex individuals reveal the secrets of their unconventional lives – and how they have navigated their way through this strictly male/female world, when they fit somewhere in between. The stories are moving, humorous, intimate, enlightening and entertaining.

Tickets are $10 plus $1 booking fee from Daisy Tickets.

Here’s the event on Facebook.

This is a special Sydney premiere presentation of INTERSEXION to coincide with the MindOUT! LGBTI Suicide Prevention Symposium, presented by the National LGBTI Health Alliance.

Update following the screening

Intersexion screened at the Red Rattler Theatre last Tuesday to a capacity crowd. We’d like to extend our thanks to the amazing Mani Mitchell for the ability to show the movie, and for the Q&A session afterwards. We’d also like to thank Jain Moralee from Queer Screen, Barry Taylor from the National LGBTI Health Alliance, Grant Lahood from Ponsonby Productions, and Morgan Carpenter from OII Australia. If you were there, then thank you so much for watching.

We’re particularly grateful for the active engagement of people at the screening, and we hope that there will be other chances to show the film.

Copies of the film are available on DVD for personal and educational uses here.
