The National Police Certificate (NPC) check as it is carried out in Western Australia

OII Australia considers the provision of criminal history checks by the West Australian Police force to be adequate. The checks and balances seem to be there for intersex given the police in that state see differences in sex as being analogous to differences in gender. We have no need to pursue that debate with the police.

OII is especially pleased to see documentation in respect of an individual will be issued in the name in which the application was made and no reference to a person’s sex or gender is made on those documents.

OII also notes that no police force that has responded so far refers to any information held by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
