Five years on from the Darlington Statement, an Intersex Awareness Day webinar
For Intersex Awareness Day this year we’re marking the fifth anniversary of the Darlington Statement, written, ratified, and published in March 2017 during the first Darlington Retreat. This webinar will bring together some of the voices instrumental to the Statement.
Submission to the UN Committee against Torture
Later this year Australia will be considered during the 75th session of the UN Committee against Torture. In 2016 we made a submission to the Committee under our former name, OII Australia. Given the time that has elapsed since then, and given local developments, we have submitted a new shadow report.
HRC51: The right to health of intersex persons and protection from violence and harmful practices
This side event of the UN Human Rights Council will focus on the right to health of intersex persons and protection from violence and harmful practices – including on medical settings – based on sex characteristics.
The last census, and the next
We warmly welcome publication by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) of analysis of responses to ‘non-binary sex’ in the 2021 census. The report shows a need for reform ahead of the next census.
Introductory training sessions now starting monthly

We have a vacancy for an administrator. This is a part-time role will provide office support and is vital for the smooth-running of the organisation. Assisted reproductive technologies: submission to the WA government
The Department of Health in Western Australia has invited submissions in response to a discussion paper on proposed legislation in relation to assisted reproductive technologies and surrogacy.
Challenging bad practice in pathology
In late 2020, the Royal College of Pathologists of Australia published a profoundly problematic statement on pathology for transgender and intersex persons. It should not have been published in its current form, and it should be withdrawn.
Submission on reform of the NT Anti-Discrimination Act
We have made a submission in response to an invitation by the Northern Territory government to respond to proposals to amend the Anti-Discrimination Act 1992.
Our first face-to-face meeting since Jan 2020: strategic planning weekend
Our board and staff met for a strategic planning weekend in Canberra, ACT, this last weekend, 16-17 July 2022. This was also the first time that our directors and our staff met each other in person.
