ILGA Oceania – inaugural board

ILGA, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, has been an important actor in bringing together the international intersex movement. To date, ILGA, and its European grouping ILGA-Europe, have brought together activists from all permanently inhabited continents for three annual forums.

The local regional group, ILGA Oceania has just been formally established at a series of meetings in Darwin, Australia. We’re delighted to say that the inaugural board of ILGA Oceania contains two intersex representatives, Mani MItchell and Morgan Carpenter, and that Morgan has been appointed as secretary of the organisation. There are currently 9 board members, including 4 Australians, 4 Pacific Islanders, and one New Zealander:

Ymania Brown – co-convenor, Samoa Fa’afafine Association Inc
Corey Irlam – co-convenor, Victoria Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, Australia
Morgan Carpenter – secretary, OII Australia
Anna Brown – treasurer, Human Rights Law Centre, Australia
Barry Taylor – Gay and Lesbian Sports Association – Asia Pacific
Joey Joleen Mataele – Tonga Leiti’s Association
Jason Mitchell – Rainbow Pride Foundation, Fiji
Mani Mitchell – Intersex Trust Aotearoa New Zealand
Ken Moala – Pacific Sexuality Diversity Network, Samoa

Tony Briffa participated in the founding meeting for OII Australia, and also acted as a returning officer in the first board meeting.

Gina Wilson, retired founding president of OII Australia, served on the organising committee for ILGA Oceania, along with Barry Taylor, Joleen Mataele, Mani Mitchell, and Simon Margan.

OII Australia would like to thank the outgoing members of the organising committee, and congratulate all the members of the new ILGA Oceania board.
