Video: Intersex documentary “Intersexion”

Long awaited documentary about the experiences of a number of intersex people around the world, Intersexion, was made for New Zealand television broadcaster TV One by Grant Lahood with the assistance of Wellington-resident intersex activist and counsellor Mani Bruce Mitchell.

Copies are available to purchase from the makers of Intersexion Film in NZ.

A number of members of Organisation Internationale des Intersexués (OII) were interviewed for Intersexions including Gina Wilson, Hida Viloria, David Iris Cameron and Jim Costich.

Non-OII people also included are non-intersex academic Alice Dreger, and Bo Laurent aka Cheryl Chase, both formerly of the now defunct, Intersex Society of North America (ISNA).

WOW! This is powerful stuff. I was inspired watching this series of online videos.

Thankyou to all the people involved in putting it together, to OII for sharing it with me and to Gina for being so brave as to discuss her past in such a raw and open way.

And as if that not enough, just wait for the longer film festival edit of this as well as the DVD with extras such as the whole of each interview. This film is just the beginning of intersex people talking about intersex.

Phoebe Hart in Orchids and the people in this film have broken the ice, smashing through the silence and shame that have been imposed upon intersex people the world over for so long, and now we are talking. Now we need to talk about all the issues these first two films have not covered or barely touched upon, and we need to do it in depth and detail.

WOW!

I am amazed. So much so that I am totally embedding these links on my blogpost dedicated to OIIAustralia :)
