Carpenter: intersex people and the Yogyakarta Principles

The Yogyakarta Principles are an authoritative application of human rights law in relation to sexual orientation and gender identity. In 2017, they were expanded in the Yogyakarta Principles plus 10, taking account of new developments in human rights jurisprudence, and adding the new attributes of sex characteristics and gender expression.

Morgan Carpenter was a member of the drafting committee and a signatory to the Yogyakarta Principles plus 10. In this peer-reviewed paper in the journal Culture, Health and Sexuality, based on a workshop at the 2018 intersex studies conference in Bologna, Italy, he outlines the development, purpose and importance of the new Principles.
